Isn’t it fun when a brand-new restaurant opens in your town? I find it so exciting to explore new spots in the hopes of discovering a favorite hangout, a distinct vibe, or a unique dish. Recently at 101 North Eatery & Bar, I found all three of these things!
This is the newest restaurant to hit the growing culinary scene of Westlake Village, California and my husband and I had the opportunity to dine there during opening week. With a rustic yet modern feel and the best playlist I’ve heard in a restaurant in a long time, we instantly felt at ease like we were walking into our long-time neighborhood watering hole. I’m happy to share our fun date night experience and some of the highlights here!
101 North Eatery & Bar is a restaurant that really wants to build a local community. Not only is this focus reflected in the communal seating arrangements near the bar and lounge area, but also in the dedication to using local ingredients for their contemporary, new American cuisine. The vibe is comfortable and California cool, and the friendly staff makes it feel as if no customer is a stranger.
The bar is beautiful and quite large, with just one small television as to not take away from the ambiance of the setting. They have a list of yummy signature cocktails (which we gladly tried), as well as local beers on draft. What’s great is they’re one of the few places in the area that stays open late! The hours are TUES-SAT from 5:00p-1:00a (kitchen open ‘til midnight) and SUN from 5:00p-10:00p.
Head Chef Anthony Alaimo has worked all over the United States and the world, even earning a Michelin star with his team at Ristorante Il Teatro at the Wynn Macau Resort in China. He has adapted all of his favorite flavors and dishes from his travels into 101 North’s unique menu offerings where you’ll find everything from Spanish Octopus to Falafel Sliders and a fun wood-fired pizza oven. Important note: if you have a gluten-free diet as I do, they will happily adapt many of the menu items to suit this restriction AND they make gluten-free pizza too (that I dove right into…YUM)!
My absolute favorite menu finds so far are the Little Gem Salad (which both my husband and I ordered) and the Vegan Coconut Panna Cotta dessert. The salad is perfectly portioned and has the most flavorful and refreshing taste. The dessert is like nothing I’ve ever tasted before anywhere! Do not let the “vegan” in its title deter you because this panna cotta is a blend of the most amazing flavors and my taste buds were dancing!
We have officially found our new date night spot to come grab some apps and drinks before seeing a movie or stopping by for a late-night bite and dessert after the movie. If you’re looking for a new lively haunt, then definitely give 101 North Eatery & Bar a try. I can’t wait to go back and try another round of new menu items that I’m sure I’ll be obsessing over!
Thanks for reading! xoxo, JB
