This black faux leather skirt is one of my favorite fall and winter items in my closet. I saw this Free People skirt hanging on a rack from a distance three years ago at Nordstrom and then instantly fell in love when I saw it up close. Not only is it made from faux leather, but it has pleats!! Now… I have searched high and low for all of you, trying to find if this skirt still exists. Unfortunately, it does not (cue the frown faces). BUT, you’re still in luck because leather skirts are extra trendy this year so there’s a lot of options right now. I’ve rounded up a bunch of good ones for you, staying away from any of the styles that are too short, or too “lady of the night” looking (hahaha… you catch my drift)! Styling a black skirt is so fun because the options are endless. From classing it up for work, to sexing it up for date night… or adding tights and a sweater when the temperatures drop. This skirt can be a wardrobe workhorse if you let it. Today I’ve styled the skirt in two ways and the first is a traditional black and white look. Every gal needs a white button-up shirt in their life and this one is perfectly tailored, yet stretchy, AND stain-resistant. I’ve had this one for years and it’s still in pristine condition. This adorable white handbag actually has ruffled leather and I love the size. Adding a blazer or a colorful neckerchief would really elevate this look for work. Changing out these heels for booties, and throwing a denim jacket over your shoulders would still be classic, but a more casual vibe.

In the second look, I styled the skirt as more of a fall transition option with a sleeveless white tee, colorful cardigan and felt hat. On a side note, if you don’t yet have a felt hat for fall, I highly recommend one! Hats really step up your look and they’re perfect for keeping your hair in check with the fall wind.
Most people think you have to be going somewhere fancy to wear a leather skirt, and that’s NOT the case! Don’t be afraid to dumb down your leather skirt with a tee and cardi like this. Not only will you be comfy, but you’ll be fashion-forward as well.

So please tell me, will you be trying out a faux leather skirt for fall and winter? I encourage you to try it, even if it’s something you haven’t considered before. You just might surprise yourself!
