After today, my boys only have six days of school left and then life becomes a big beach and pool party for a few months… woot woot! In Southern California we are fortunate to spend a LOT of time in the sun and surf. This means that we need durable swimsuits that can handle lots of salt water, chlorine, intense sun, and hundreds of trips through the washing machine. Oh… and they obviously have to be cute and stylish too!! While durability and style are important, there’s one more thing that I look for when shopping for my boys’ swimsuits that is paramount: I must have the ability to purchase the same swimsuits in multiple sizes.

Dressing my boys in matching swimsuits is not something I do just because it looks cute (although that is a charming bonus). My reasoning is purely from a safety standpoint. When we are anywhere near water and large crowds of people, my Mom radar is on overdrive as there are so many potential dangers. If the boys have matching swimsuits on, I can spot them so much faster and easier. And just as important, they can spot each other easier. Think about how overwhelming the crowds can be at the beach, a pool party, or on vacation somewhere… this strategy has always worked for us and brings me tremendous comfort.

If you’ve been following along for a while, then you know I buy most of my own bathing suits at Target. Well, it’s no different when it comes to my kiddos. They have a huge selection of Cat & Jack brand separates that can be mixed and matched, AND I have no problem finding the same suits to fit both my five and seven-year old. These swimsuits are great quality, they offer UPF 50 protection from the sun, and they are only $13 per piece.

Below I linked a bunch of the rash guard and swim trunk combinations that I put together. Remember to open this post in your browser to see the shopping widget at the bottom. You’ll be seeing Sawyer and Grayson running around all summer in these cute suits!

I hope this strategy proves as helpful to you as it has to me over the years. Do you have any special precautions that you take when you’re in public with your kiddos? I would love to hear them so please let me know in the comments below. Summer… here we come!

Thanks for reading! xoxo, JB

I do this exact thing! I have even dressed the girls in matching outfits when we go to crowded places like the aquarium. It helped us once when one of the girls took off alone and we needed to find her. Great tip!

Yes, you are right on the money! The biggest fear is losing them and matching outfits is a lifesaver in those situations. Spotting the matching gear saves valuable seconds! xo
